Hey there everyone ~ Hope you’re doin well! Life in Mexico continues to be magical. Including the dental care we found.
Last week, I was having a snack when I chewed down on something hard. A crown! Oh joy! At first, I thought it was a tooth, but no. It was a crown. I was like, whatever, but my wife was like, you need to see a dentist.
Ugh. I hate dentists. But, being that my wife is usually right, I reached out to a couple of dentists that were recommended to me. One got back to me right away with an appointment for one the next afternoon! WOW! No time like the present, I guess!
We got there and the place was spotless and comfortable. The dentist took us back (Yes, I asked my wife to join me). She did x-rays and took pictures of my teeth. She showed us the pictures and pointed out the infection in my tooth and gums where the crown had come out.
“You really need to have this tooth pulled,” she said. “I will see if our surgeon has time today.”
“Today? I don’t think I need it today.”
“Yes, you do,” my wife said.
“Fine.” But I wasn’t thrilled.
Sure enough, the surgeon could see me in half an hour! OK………….
From the time the surgeon entered the room until I was standing at his desk getting my prescription form, it took about ten minutes. It was quick and almost painless. I ended up needing a second shot in the roof of my mouth. NOT my idea of a good time.
The surgeon told me everything he was doing and what to expect at each point in the extraction. When it was through, he handed me the prescriptions and told me to get them filled downstairs. That’s right, folks. The receptionist gave me my antibiotics and pain pills. They were out of the special mouthwash he wanted me to use.
So now… it’s time to pay. My stomach is in knots. I hate dentists, but hate the cost of them even more!
Our total, including consult, x-rays, extraction, and meds? $400 USD. We were blown away!
I followed the surgeon’s instructions and now, a week after losing the crown, my mouth is in great shape. I go back tomorrow for a follow up just to make sure it all looks good to them. That will cost about $25 USD.
I will end up getting a bridge, but that’s a few weeks down the road. I can’t say enough about the care, cost, and compassion in all I experienced at the dentist!
Thanks for following me on my Mexican journey! Maybe you’ll come visit sometime?
Would love to hear from you. What are your thoughts?
